I am now working on planters which are the same forms as the sculptures and water features. They have a double " skin " with a recess for planting in, thus preventing frost cracking if the round shape were filled with compost. I cannot put photos on because I havn't fired any yet. They will be good in groups with the water features and sculptures.
I aim to get a quantity made in time for the Spring Flower Show at Boconnoc this year on March 31 and April !st.

Water features and sculptures are coiled in two domes which are joined when strong enough to move around.

The wall is built with round coils of clay which are then pinched to about 1cm thick.

The dome is now closed and I am refining the shape with my most essential tool, a broken hacksaw blade.

Carved ammonite design.
The design is drawn free hand and carved out when the clay is the consistency of hard cheese. This has to be done quite quickly before the clay dries too much, this is the most critcal part of the process and the one that tires me the most.

The grooves are carefully moulded as the form dries. The form is surprisingly strong even when the clay is soft because of air pressure.
